Scrapbook Sunday | Using crayon to colour chipboard...

Chipboard is one of the most versatile scrapbooking embellishments you can use. It can be coated with paint, ink, mists, patterned paper, embossed, or even left raw...the only limit is your imagination. One of my favourite ways to treat chipboard is to raid the kids pencil cases and use their crayons!  Crayons cover chipboard beautifully and add a rough looking texture to the surface.

I created this layout recently to document our Australia Day celebrations a couple of years ago.  The kids proudly wear their Aussie t-shirts and hats each year, and they look just adorable. I always take loads of photos on celebration days, but always find the theme and colour scheme a bit difficult to work with.  Words or Whatever have a great selection of Australiana themed chipboard which makes the task so much easier...
When you see the title piece of chipboard raw, all of the words run into one another. I wanted to created a variegated look so that each word stood alone.  I started by colouring the top word with a red crayon and the second and third words with red marker.  I then coloured the middle word again with red crayon over the top to soften the depth of the red marker.  The bottom words were completely coloured with navy marker, then the top half coated with a lighter shade of blue crayon.  Each of the letters were then outlined with a white gel pen, and covered with glaze to seal the crayon. Here's a close up...
The banner border was covered in Australian flag patterned paper, and trimmed out with a craft knife. A doodled border was added to each flag, then twine added to the top to tie the two banners together. Words or Whatever products used: Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi! chip titlebanner border.

In addition to family albums, I have one dedicated to my friends. I had so much fun creating this layout. I've tried to incorporate as many things as I can about my friend Sandra...her favourite colour - purple; her obsessions - owls; halloween paper; the word "delight" to represent her store Scrapbooking Delights; and lemon paper...a funny joke we share. To me, this layout reminds me of her perfectly.
The chipboard pieces have been coloured with marker and coated with glaze...another favourite chipboard technique! Words or Whatever products used: RW Frame 1; Complete Perfection title.
