This month, Words or Whatever have been sponsoring CSI: Color Stories Inspiration, and this week I'm appearing as one of the "guest detectives". CSI is a weekly scrapbooking challenge site, that inspires you to create with colour schemes that you may not have thought about combining yourself. In addition to the colour schemes, you're also presented with the scene (an inspirational photo), a list of evidence (layout criteria), and testimonals (journaling prompts) for you to include on your layout. You need to put all of these together to solve the case! Sounds like fun, doesn't it!
This week's CSI case file is no. 13, and I was immediately inspired to create a layout using the colour scheme. From the evidence list, I decided to make a pinwheel, and to include twine and jewels. I used the inspiration word "play" for my title, and documented play as part of my journaling.
...and here's my case completed! The great thing about working with colour schemes is that you can pull out your old papers and give them new life. I actually sort my papers by colour for this exact reason. This photo of Seth was taken three years ago at the Wollongong Botanic Gardens playground. He loved climbing all over the netting!
For this layout, I have used WOW's new cog border (C1202) and the cog set - plain (C729). I split the cog border in half so that I could frame two sides of my photo. The cogs themselves have been coloured with two different shades of green, and coated with glaze. I then coloured and layered more cogs on top...using cogs for the centres of my pinwheels.
This week, I also have this layout featured on the WOW blog. The talented Lynette Van Barrelo of My Lens and Me Photography, took this photo of me at Camp Mojo in July 2011. At the time, I was just starting to dive into a deep depression, and really wasn't feeling all that great about myself. She managed to capture some nice photos, but I can see in my eyes, that I'm not really smiling...
I chose to use WOW's word title "Determination" (RWL9470) on this layout to remind myself that living is about taking it day by day. I am determined to not let depression define me, and I will continue to find appreciation in the little things. To compliment the Teresa Collins "Everyday Moments" collection of papers and diecuts used on my layout, I have coloured a bird from WOW's blue birds set (RWL9302) in two shades of yellow.
