Snow @ the Fly...Eme's 7th birthday and a Tinker Bell cake...

This week, our baby girl celebrated her 7th birthday! Where does the time go? For the longest time, she's been asking for a scooter for her birthday...a two-wheeled one like her brother. Then two weeks before the big day, she threw us a curve ball and announced she didn't want that anymore...she wanted something Apple! We told her perhaps she could have a little shuffle. The look on her face when she opened up her presents and discovered an iPod Touch was just priceless! Talk about one happy girl.
To celebrate her special day, we took a family trip up to the Illawarra Fly, for their Snow @ the Fly special event.  The Fly have great activities planned for the kids every school holidays; it was such a thrill to finally give the kids a snow experience. Eme wanted to build a snow man, and there were shovels, buckets, and snow man accessories there ready and waiting for her to make her creation. She got as far as building one small circle and declared it was too cold (yeah, I forgot the gloves). Her snow man consisted of a head only, but looked super fab with a pink top hat, button eyes and big carrot nose.
Seth on the other hand, decided that throwing snow balls was the activity of choice! He had an absolute ball gathering up the snow and throwing them as hard as he could at Dad. Andrew got his revenge, and put some ice inside the back of Seth's jacket. lol...lesson learned.
Then it was onto the tobogganing. The kids had an absolute ball!  Andrew got them started by giving them up a push...then it was whoooosh, down the hill...over and over again.  So much fun!
Once we'd finished playing in the snow, it was time for a walk through the treetops.  It was such a beautiful day...not too windy or hot. My Dad took over the photography duties here, and took some gorgeous photos of the native flora with the tower and walkway poking through...
My Mum faced her fear of heights and conquered the 106 stairs of the Fly's tower! So proud of her. Seth was terrified walking up there, and need a little comfort once he reached the top...the poor little chicken. The view of the tree tops from up there is just magical...45m above the ground.
After the walk, it was time for cake! This year, Andrew baked Eme a strawberries and cream flavoured cake, then I decorated it as Tinker Bell...Eme's favourite fairy. To create the cake, I followed the same technique I used for this cake.

Eme loved it...and it tasted really good too!  We sang Happy Birthday to our girl, then indulged in a piece of cake or two in the cafe at the Fly. The cafe was more than happy to store the cake in the fridge for us until we were ready...and they make great milkshakes and coffees too.
What's a birthday without a hug/squeeze from your big brother!
Eme had a fabulous birthday celebration at the Fly! We still can't believe our baby girl is now 7. Wonder what we'll do next year?

Side note - when I pick a birthday cake theme, I usually pick a birthday card and other things to match. This year's card featured Tinker Bell...press the button and her wings start flapping and a musical tune starts to play. We also downloaded a new book for her iPod touch called Tinker Bell Disney Fairies : A Guide to Pixie Hollow. To celebrate the release of "Tinker Bell and the Secret of the Wings", Event Cinemas are offering it free for download until 26 October 2012.
