So, my hubby and I have been talking about our expenses and wondering how we can reduce the amount of money we've been spending at the checkout. We like to eat a variety of fresh fruit, vegetables and meat every day, and sometimes, trying to eat healthy costs a small fortune. To us, anyway. Thank goodness for Kylie Ofiu's guest post here on this very blog! Kylie inspired us to try shopping at our local fresh food market instead of the supermarket, like we normally do. The results were staggering...see for yourself...
We saved nearly $100 and bought all of the things we normally buy...and more! The lamb pack alone saved us $23.00, and included a lamb leg roast, loin chops, cutlets and forequarter chops. A-maz-ing! I swear, its like a weight has been lifted. If we continue on this path, that'll be a saving of close to $2,500 a year. Hello! Major eye opening experience.
The meat was broken up into 15 meals, so that's about $5.30 a meal for four people. We've taken it one step further and written out a mini menu plan. We haven't worked out exact recipes we'll be using, but we have allocated the meat onto specific days so we know what we'll be having each night. That alone will make meal times easier...and there's a huge array of fruit and vege in the fridge to accompany it.
Seems silly to be this excited over doing the grocery shopping, but hey, the savings may just pay for a holiday, or something else frivolous like paying a chunk off the visa. I highly recommend you apply some of Kylie Ofiu's tips yourself...what have you got to lose?
Looking forward to hearing how you go...
