Disney's Teen Beach Movie {review & giveaway}

Confession. I love watching Disney movies...especially musicals. I will find any excuse to pop one on "for the children", then sit there and sing along with them a bit too enthusiastically.

Our newest favourite...
Teen Beach Movie!

Teen Beach Movie recently premiered on the Disney Channel, and is now available to own on DVD! This super fun musical tells the story of McKenzie "Mack" (Australia's own Maia Mitchell) and Brady (Ross Lynch of "Austin & Ally"), a modern-day teenage couple who share a love of surfing.

All is perfect until Mack's Aunt arrives to take her to an exclusive prep school; changing the course of her life and ending her relationship with Brady. While attempting to catch one last big wave before she leaves, Mack and Brady are magically transported back in time and plonked right into the middle of Brady's favourite movie, '60s-era beach film "Wet Side Story"...
Brady is thrilled to join in the fun of "Wet Side Story", fully immersing himself into every song and dance number. Mack, on the other hand, thinks it's all a bit silly and just wants to go home. Meanwhile, a long-standing turf war between the local surfers and bikers is playing out, as well as an evil plot by villain Les Camembert to redevelop the beach and popular hang out "Big Momma's".
Brady and Mack accidentally change the plot of the movie, resulting in a bit of a love "square"...with the two main characters of "Wet Side Story" (Tanner and Lela) falling for Brady and Mack instead of each other. Can Brady and Mack get the story back on it's correct path so that they can return home? You'll have to watch to see how it plays out...
So essentially, Teen Beach Movie is a movie within a movie...a bit like Back to the Future meets High School Musical meets Gidget. We thoroughly enjoyed watching Teen Beach Movie together. My daughter Eme (aged 8) is obsessed with this film, and has watched it more times than I can remember already! The characters are really likable, the costumes are fun and colourful, and you'll find yourself singing and dancing along to all of the tunes...thank goodness the soundtrack is excellent, as it's currently on high rotation in our house and car!

As a parent, I was really pleased with the positive messages throughout the film...standing up to peer pressure and for what you believe in, friendship, working together, and challenging the status quo. I was also impressed with the positive body image portrayed throughout the film. There's no swearing, kissing, nor overt violence...making this suitable viewing for many age groups.
