Trust 30 | One strong belief...

It is easy in the world to live after the world’s opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

One Strong Belief by Buster Benson
The world is powered by passionate people, powerful ideas, and fearless action. What’s one strong belief you possess that isn’t shared by your closest friends or family? What inspires this belief, and what have you done to actively live it?

On principle, I do not eat veal. I don't care how delicious it is, its just not right. I have never eaten it, and I never will. I know it seems hypocritical that I eat other meats...there's just something about veal that makes me incredibly emotive. It breaks my heart that these calves are taken from their mothers at just hours old, housed in incredibly small crates, then slaughtered as young as five days old.  Veal is the by-product of the dairy industry. Obviously to produce milk, a dairy cow has to give birth. Male dairy calves obviously cannot produce milk in the future, so they are destined to become veal. Its a sad fact. Realistically, I shouldn't be eating dairy either. Its hard to justify it to myself. Does allowing an animal to spend time with its mother and frolic in a field make it okay for me to eat it? Not really, but that's my reality. That's my issue to deal with.
