Aussie Curves | I've got the blues...

This week's Aussie Curves fashion cue comes from the colour blue...in my case, navy and teal (my favourite shade of blue). There are so many shades on the spectrum, it was difficult to narrow it down to just one! As far as colour goes, I'm willing to try a bit of everything. Blue and orange...perfect.  Throw in some lilac...why not...
My inspiration this week comes from the Spring Racing fashions showcased at the Westfield Fashion Festival held at Bondi Junction over the weekend. I love the looks Jeff Lack (stylist) introduced for this season...so fun...a mash of Autumn and Spring tones, with unexpected pops of colour. Feminine silhouettes teamed with pretty fascinators and simple up do's.
Armed with this information, I headed out shopping. I found this City Chic maxi dress, and it mimics the colours in the image above beautifully. It's got the navy from the suit, as well as the orange and black from the graphic print dress. The rounded neckline is also hot this season...this dress nails it imho.  I've replicated the pop of teal included with that killer yellow frock too, by adding my favourite cardigan on top.
Westfield also had on display, their new Body Shape Calculator; an online calculator that advises what your body shape is, and how to make it work for you. I'm a pear...the bottom heavy beauty...a fact I've been well aware of since my early teens. My hips have always been a lot wider than my waist. Accentuating my waist (or just above) with a stretchy belt always helps draw attention to the narrowest part of my torso.
You may have realised by now that I love costume jewellery...particularly a statement cocktail ring. I couldn't pass up this pretty parrot. I love how colourful it is, and how it injects a bit of humour into my overall look.
This season is all about colourful shoes...thank goodness! Life is too short for boring black. I'm so surprised how many outfits in my wardrobe coordinate with these teal wedges...definitely worth the purchase. Do you have colourful shoes in your wardrobe?
Tips for the Pear: Don't wear shoes with ankle straps as they will cut your leg off and make them appear shorter. A chunky, wedge or platform shoe will finish off the balance of your proportions beautifully.
Tip for the Pear: Statement necklaces and earrings are perfect for drawing the attention to your top half while also creating that all important balance.
This necklace is certainly making the right statement, and does the trick of balancing my overall look. The colours from the skirt are replicated in the necklace...and the teal beads were the jumping off point for the addition of the teal cardigan and shoes. The lesson here...take a risk. You don't always need to match your accessories to your outfit...try something that completely contrasts.
Trends for hair and makeup this season are gorgeous too. Elsa Morgan (international makeup artist) recommends bronze eye makeup with a neutral lip for the day...then step it up with orange-red lipstick, and eyeliner wings for an evening look. Elsa went through the three different looks in a matter of minutes, layering on colour as she went. Here's the end result...you have to agree, this makeup look is gorgeous, and definitely wearable.
Byron Turnball, hairdresser to the stars, advises hair styles with texture and a beachy vibe will be hot. Loose curls, with extra body added at the roots for the day, then create a quick upstyle with just a few bobby pins for an evening look.
For a woman with a rounder face such as myself, adding height to your hair will lengthen your face. I tend to agree...as this messy upstyle shows. I tried a little of the bronze eye shadow, and a pale lip colour as well. The finished look is fresh, and so easy to achieve.
