After the show, the kids and I decided to walk the Illawarra Fly. The kids weren't scared at all! I, on the other hand, didn't let go of the railing the whole way around! Here's the trick...don't look down!! The walk itself was very gentle, and there were families pushing prams along the walk. Seth read all the information signs aloud, teaching us about the local flora and fauna. I didn't feel confident enough to walk out to the very edges of the cantilevers or to the top of the tower that day, but the view of the Illawarra was spectacular!
The Illawarra Fly guide map introduced us to a local resident...Dozer the wombat. We found Dozer's burrow as we walked along the path. The kids stopped to write Dozer a letter, and pop it into the letterbox at the entrance to the burrow. I'm reliably told by Ranger Cookie that they actually keep all of Dozer's letters. They're pinned to the wall in the office (so sweet). Our family outing to the Fly was just lovely, and I couldn't wait to go there again!
An opportunity to head up back up to the Illawarra Fly came along a couple of weeks ago...this time by myself. Ranger Cookie gave me a guided tour of the Fly, chatting to me about how it was constructed, and sharing points of interest along the way. This time, I managed to walk the Fly without holding onto the rails at all! We walked to the very edges of each of the cantilevers. They swung and bounced a little, but it was fine. Next it was time to tackle the tower. My two greatest fears...heights and spiral staircases! I felt so nervous going up those 106 stairs, but I did it! It was so worth it!! The view was even more amazing, and it was so peaceful up there.
I am very excited to announce that I will now be representing the Illawarra Fly as their "brand champion", and I'll be sharing more adventures and events at this fantastic local attraction.
This school holidays, the Illawarra Fly is hosting another great event...Snow @ The Fly! Talk about fun!! I can't wait to take the kids to see the snow...all the frosty fun, without the need to head to the ski fields.
For four days only, the Illawarra Fly will become a Winter Wonderland. We will create a snow play space with a small two lane tubing hill and a snow ball target throwing area. The space will be fenced off and entry for pre-booked ticket holders only. We will offer six pre-booked hour long sessions per day, with fifteen minute turn around between each one. Snow will be made fresh onsite daily. Each session will hold approx 100 children. Session times: 9:30 | 10:45 | 12:00 | 1:15 | 2:30 and 3:45pm from September 26 to 29....and I have a family pass for two adults and two children to giveaway!
